Geneva tournament director lauds Roger Federer’s patriotism towards Switzerland

Roger Federer will return to action on the tour next week at the Geneva Open. The Swiss legend last played on the tour in Dubai, where he lost in the quarterfinals to Nikoloz Basilashvili.
Thereafter, the 20-time Grand Slam winner took time off from the sport to focus on his knee injury and fitness levels. Incidentally, this will also be Federer’s first clay tournament of the year before he heads for Paris to play the French Open.
Federer has already confirmed he will play the tournament in Halle as a warm-up to Wimbledon, where he is an eight-time champion. Recently, the maestro was also spotted doing various promotions for his country on the travel and tourism front.
The 39-year-old is also going to be the top seed in Geneva, and as per the tournament director, TD Thierry Grin, Federer is still contemplating on whether or not to get his family along for the tournament.
“Federer is a real patriot, he would have never played in Lyon. He has not decided yet if he will come with his family, with one or more coaches. Roger won’t stay at the same hotel as others, but he will comply with the health regulations”
Geneva draw ceremony on Friday
The Geneva draw ceremony will take place on Friday at 6:30 PM CEST. A few days ago, a report stated that Roger Federer was the 7th highest-paid athlete over the last year, having earned $90 million, which is the result of his sponsorship deals and appearance fees.
Over the years, we have seen how Federer has adapted to different conditions and players. Federer, who adores and advocates serve-and-volley game even made adjustments to his game in order to rally with the baseliners of the current era. Speaking about evolving, Federer explained to his apparel sponsors, UNIQLO.
“I’m a more balanced player. Over the time I have been adding details to my game style, my footwork and the technology of my rackets that make me play better now than when I was 20 years old.”
