‘Have something lined up!’ Fresh updates on Andy Murray’s long awaited search for head coach

World No. 87 Andy Murray continues to rise in the ATP rankings having broken into the ATP Top-100 last week, entering into a double-digit ranking for the first time in 45 months. Murray was ranked 95th in the world when he started at the 2022 Rotterdam Open.

The journey however ended in the second round when the Brit was defeated by eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime. The 34-year-old then was disappointing both in Qatar and Dubai, losing at the round of 16 stages in both the tournaments to Roberto Bautista Agut and Jannick Sinner respectively.

Andy Murray had ruthlessly cut ties with German coach Jan de Witt following an unsuccessful trial period together at the Australian Open. Former world No 1 Murray was knocked out in straight sets in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament by Italian Jannik Sinner. Since then, the Scot has been searching for a replacement as a coach.

After his Round of 16 loss, the former World No.1 has apparently spoken already to a couple of people and in fact, has stuff lined up post-Miami. However, he also revealed that he needs someone to cover the time during the Miami/Indian Wells stretch.

“I’ve spoken to a couple of people. I got some stuff lined up post-Miami. Not for the Miami/Indian Wells stretch. I still need to find someone to cover that time – obviously someone to cover a majority of the weeks,” Murray said.

Murray then went on to reveal that instead of a long-term coach, he already has a short-term coach lined up who’ll be on a temporary basis and would just help him get by the grass season. He also said that the revelation will maybe come in the next few days.

“I have someone in the short-term who’s going to help me through until the grass season. You guys will be hearing about that in the next few days, I’d imagine,” revealed Murray.
