After a sub-par start to the season, Reilly Opelka turned his fortunes around by winning his first title in nearly two years at the Dallas Open. He continued his winning momentum with a runner-up finish at the Delray Beach Open. His run at the Indian Wells was cut short by Rafael Nadal in the fourth round. Opelka snapped his 4 matches losing streak in Houston with a hard-fought win over qualifier Mitchell Krueger in the second round. Opelka had to come from a set down to emerge victorious 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. In the quarter-finals, he was more clinical and breezed past Gijs Brouwer 6-3, 7-5.

Nick Kyrgios has had a career resurgence of sorts this season after struggling with injuries last year. He won the Australian Open doubles title with Thanasi Kokkinakis and had a good campaign in singles as well. Playing in just his fourth tournament of the year and his first on clay courts since 2019, the Australian showed no signs of rust so far in Houston. He came from a set down to win his opener against Mackenzie McDonald and then eased past Tommy Paul in the second round. He received a walkover in the quarters after his opponent Michale Mmoh withdrew with an injury.

Known primarily for their forte on hard courts, both Kyrgios and Opelka have brought their A-game to the clay courts in Houston. Kyrgios is competing in his first tournament on red dirt since 2019, whereas Opelka had never won a match in Houston before this season. But both the players have been clinical in the tournament so far.

Opelka and Kyrgios are well known for their big serving game and both of them would be looking to take control of the match early on. Opelka has been slightly the better performer this year, but the American has not yet completely recovered from his shoulder injury which forced him to withdraw from Miami. Kyrgios would be looking to capitalize on this and continue his stellar run.

Prediction: Nick Kyrgios to win in three sets
