Serena Williams

For the last 2 decades, Serena Williams is the biggest name in the world of women’s tennis. She has redefined consistency over the years and is currently in striking distance of being called the Greatest of All Time. At 23, she is just one major shy of Martina Navratilova’s record of 24 grand slam titles.

But since the last few years, Serena hasn’t been able to cross that hurdle. She has struggled with form, and with the birth of her daughter Olympia, she has also discovered a new dimension in life. Away from the court for almost 8 months, the American has ensured that she spends as much time as possible with her family and daughter.

In a recent interview with Insider, she spoke about her duties as a mother. She admitted that ‘mom guilt’ is real and that she feels guilty when she spends the slightest of her time by herself. She further said that she is very hands-on with her daughter.

“Mom guilt is real. I always feel so guilty when I’m doing something on my own,” she said. “I don’t know if I’m a good mom, and I don’t know if my method works, but I’m very hands-on with my daughter, and it was the same with our parents. So I’ve set really good boundaries, but then after work, I’m going right to my daughter. And that’s amazing and good, but now it’s like, ‘Okay, what happens to Serena?’” she said.

Speaking about the change in priorities, Serena said that she is currently enjoying this phase of life as she currently is just playing for herself. She revealed that she is just enjoying her tennis and never wants to stop doing what she loves.

“This chapter makes me happy because for so many years I’ve played, and I’ve loved doing it, but now I’m playing just for me,” she said. “I compete when and where I want to go, but I don’t have to go. So I’m enjoying it in a different way,” she said.

Serena recently teased that she may return to the court in a few months’ time at Wimbledon. That will mark her return to the court after missing out for a year.
