Andy Murray defeated Viktor Durasovic in the first round of Sydney International in 2022, to claim his first tour level victory of the season. The Briton suffered a career-threatening hip injury in 2017, after hitting his peak just a year before in 2016.

The three-time Grandslam champion has still not given up on his objective to once again reach the summit of tennis. The Briton has highlighted his goals for the current season. Some may sound a bit ambitious, but Murray has also set out some small goals.

Andy Murray has not had a deep run in any of the majors after his comeback, and he vows to change this in 2022. Murray went down fighting against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Round one of the US Open 2021, where the Briton lost in a five-set thriller.

Andy Murray vows to reach 700 wins on the tour

Andy Murray stated that among his bigger goals, he wanted to reach the landmark of 700 wins on the ATP Tour. He also wanted to win his 50th ATP title in 2022, along with a decent run in a Grandslam.

“I have some smaller goals and some bigger. I want to try and get to 700 match wins on tour, which I’m hoping I’ll be able to do this year, I want to try and get to 50 tournament wins. I want to try and have a deep run in one of the majors,” said Murray.

Andy Murray also competed at the Mubadala Exhibition which was held last month. The three time major champion revealed that he was brought down with a really bad cold post the tournament, and fortunately it was not covid-19.

“I actually got really sick after Abu Dhabi, I didn’t play or train for 10 days. It wasn’t covid related. I had a really bad cold, and my children had it and wife and mother-in-law. Like, everyone in our house got it. Fortunately it wasn’t covid,” Murray added.

Now, Andy Murray will clash against second seed and Georgian, Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round encounter at the Sydney International.
