“Grateful for the success Novak Djokovic and I had together” Marian Vajda pens an emotional note as he parts ways with Nole
Marian Vajda and Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic announced that he has decided to part ways with long time coach Marian Vajda having spent 15 years under his tutelage. Vajda and Novak had been working together since 2006 and the Slovakian coach played an instrumental part in seeing Novak shatter records and become one of the greatest players to grace the court.
Novak turned Pro in 2003 and had won 1 title by 2006 when he hired Vajda. Marian leaves Novak with a total of 86 trophies in his cabinet contributing to 85 of them. The success of Novak also saw Marian getting honoured with the 2018 ATP Coach of the Year award and consecutive wins as the Best Coach by the Olympic Committee of Serbia in 2010 and 2011.
As the player-coach split up with mutual consent for reasons unknown, the two paid emotional tributes to one another thanking each other for the joint success they had over the years which made Djokovic one of the greatest players but also made Vajda the most successful tennis coach of all time on the ATP Tour.
“During my time with Novak, I had the chance to see him transform into the player he is today. I’m very proud of the time we spent together and I’m very grateful for the success we’ve had together. I remain his greatest support on and off the court, and I look forward to taking on new challenges,” said Vajda as reported by welovetennis.fr.
No more changes in Novak Djokovic’s coaching team
With Vajda set to leave the Djokovic camp, Novak will have the others with him going ahead into the season. This includes former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic who is dubbed to take over Marian’s role but there have been no official confirmations about it. Goran has acted as the alternate coach and will be the favourite to replace the Slovakian unless Djokovic hopes to rope in some fresh face.
With Novak not allowed to enter the USA due to his unvaccinated status against Covid-19, he is set to miss the month of March which has only two ATP events, the 2022 Indian Wells Masters followed by the 2022 Miami Masters. This provides the Serbian a month to prepare before he returns to action in April when he can hope for more tournament appearances including the 2022 Belgrade Open where he is confirmed to play.
