“I was not able to serve well” Stefanos Tsitsipas dejected after losing against Felix Auger-Aliassime in Rotterdam Finals

World No. 4 and the top seed at the 2022 Rotterdam Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas had to suffer another heartbreak as he lost in the finals of the tournament to 3rd seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime. Felix won the match 6-4, 6-2 to win his first ATP title in his 9th finals appearance, ending his streak of waiting for his maiden ATP title.
Stefanos and Felix had similar paths on their way to the finals, dropping sets in the first match and the semi-finals. Going into the finals, Felix was 0-8 in ATP finals and Stef was 0-7 in ATP-500 finals. With one of the streaks about to end, it was Felix’s who defeated the Greek in a controlled performance and a rather poor performance from Stef who is now 7-11 in tournament finals.
Felix won the match in 1 hour and 17 minutes hitting 7 aces, 0 double faults and converted 3 of his 6 breakpoints to win 61 of the 99 contested points. Stef from the other side of the net managed only 1 ace, made 4 double faults and could not create a single break opportunity as he finished with 38 points in the match to lose the finals.
“Congratulations Felix, the first one is the most special. I hope you keep winning titles. I mean, not when I’m in the tournament. He had a really good game, producing some really good shots and serving well throughout the game. I was not at all able to serve well today and he played very well,” said Stefanos after the match, thanking his parents saying, “Without them, I wouldn’t be here today.”
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Felix Auger-Aliassime will both play in Marseille next

At the 2022 Marseille Open, also known as the Open 13 Provence, Stefanos will again be the top seed while Felix takes the 3rd spot in the seedings. Stef is a 2-time champion in Marseille having won the title in 2019 and 2020. Felix was the runner-up at the tournament in 2020 losing to Stef himself back then.
Both players have been handed a bye in the first round given their high seeding and will have some time to cool off from their week in Rotterdam and be prepared for the week in France looking to capture another title as they both come fresh from a finals appearance and will be the favourites as well.
