REVEALED! Iga Swiatek’s potential path to defend her French Open title

Iga Swiatek

Defending champion Iga Swiatek will look to defend her title when she steps on the court next week in Paris. Swiatek single handedly dominated the fortnight in Paris. She dropped just 28 games in the entire tournament and defeated the likes of top seed , Simona Halep, 2019 runner-up Marketa Vondrousova, Nadia Podoroska and Sofia Kenin en route her title run.

This time around, Swiatek is placed in one of the trickiest quarter of the draw. She will face Kaja Juvan in the first round and will face the winner of Shelby Rogers vs Rebecca Peterson next.

The hustle for the young Pole starts from the third round. She will take on 30th seed Anett Kontaveit in the Round of 32 before potentially face 12th seed Garbine Muguruza. She could also face Petra Martic in the Round of 16 depending on the result.

Coming into the quarterfinals, she could potentially face Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin or could also lock horns with either Jelena Ostapenko or Maria Sakkari. But the defending Champion will be tested the most against top seed and 2019 champion Ash Barty, a potential semi-final opponent.

Barty defeated her in Madrid a month ago and Swiatek will look to take revenge on the center court in Paris. After getting past Barty, Swiatek is most likely to face either of Naomi Osaka, Aryna Sabalenka or Bianca Andreescu. It will be safe to say that if Swiatek gets past Barty in the semi-finals, she will go in as the favorite in the final to lift the title for the second consecutive time.
