Novak Djokovic (L): Event with Serbian Minister, (R) Novak leaving Australia after deportation

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is all set to give his version of the entire Australian Open episode that ended with the Serbian getting deported out of the country and not allowed to participate in the 2022 Australian Open. Djokovic, the 9-time champion at the Australian Open, was the 3-time defending champion this year and was looking for his 21st Grand Slam title but was not allowed to do so.

With Djokovic leaving Australia on 16th itself, he returned to his home in Belgrade and chose not to speak about anything. While his family did hold a press conference after Novak won the first hearing, the player himself did not speak at the conference. He will however be addressing the entire fiasco shortly.

“My gratitude to the Serbian people grows stronger day by day. What I experienced in Australia proved it to me and this connection will last forever. Please be patient, in 7-10 days I will go into more detail on everything that happened in Australia,” said Djokovic in a recent public event where the Serbian Ministry of Health confirmed the validity of his Covid test that was being questioned for its legitimacy.

Djokovic arrived in Melbourne late on 5th January and given he was not vaccinated, he was not allowed to enter the country and was taken to questioning by immigration officers who questioned him for nearly 9-10 hours on why he did not get vaccinated and with the officers not finding his answers good, the Serbian was taken to a federal quarantine centre.

With the living conditions ‘inhumane‘ Djokovic spent 3 days at the Center while his lawyers filed a case against the Australian government and went on to win the first hearing on the 10th of January with the courtroom of Judge Kelly finding the government’s decision ‘unreasonable’ and ordered the immediate release of the player and granted his visa back.

The case was however not finished as Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke exercised his ministerial power to cancel Djokovic’s visa again and the Serbian spent 2 more days in the Federal quarantine centre. The decision however did not turn in his favour and Djokovic was ordered to leave the country on 16th January, a day prior to his first-round match at the Australian Open.

With a dismissal that put a black mark on the tournament and the career of one of the greatest champions of the sport, the entire episode will now be revealed by the player from his own point of view and could reveal some further details as well about the treatment he received from the Australian government.
