Jannik Sinner will face American youngster Ben Shelton in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters. The winner will be playing either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Jiri Lehecka. Sinner remains unbeaten and has earned more ranking points than any other player this year. The 22-year-old has won every tournament he has competed in this year. The first at the Australian Open and the second at the indoor events in Rotterdam. It is worth noting that, his two wins at Indian Wells were both straight-set victories against Thanasi Kokkinakis and Jan-Lennard Struff.

Meanwhile, Shelton will be hoping for a 2:1 lead against Sinner in their head-to-head. The American defeated Sinner in the Shanghai Masters in October but lost a fortnight later to him in Vienna. The 16th seed has reached two semifinals this year in Adelaide and Dallas, but is yet to win any title. His most recent loss was in Acapulco against Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals. Despite that, the youngster has brought his A-game to Indian Wells. He defeated Jakub Mensik after losing the first set and beat 22nd seed Francisco Cerundolo, via tiebreak.

This season, Jannik Sinner has improved in every aspect of his game, winning over 75% of the first-serve points and also not dropping a serve at Indian Wells. However, Shelton relies more on first serve to bank a few easy points but has dropped serve four times in the tournament.

Against Sinner, the American will be more careful not to slip up and hand over the match to the Italian. Shelton, who has been a threat on outdoor courts has struggled in his first two matches in the tournament. Besides that, Sinner should be able to beat Shelton comfortably.
