Emma Raducanu constantly stays in the news but for non-tennis reasons. This time, the British No. 1 player has created a furor with her very terse interview ahead of the Madrid Open. Her total of 58 words in response to 16 questions is a record on its own and has gone viral. Later, Raducanu withdrew from the Madrid Open hours before her first-round match, citing a wrist injury as the reason.

2023 has not bode well for the 20-year-old, as she lost her first-round matches at both the Stuttgart Open and the Miami Open. She had also pulled out of a few tournaments in 2022 due to injuries. Recently, she pulled out of the Billie Jean Cup too but appeared a few days later at the Stuttgart Open with a wild card entry as she is a brand ambassador for Porsche. All of these anomalies are making people wonder whether the young tennis superstar has actually gone rogue. What does the future hold for the young Brit?

Most people are in contempt of Emma Raducanu’s unprofessionalism, especially after this 58 interview. But there is a section that thinks about whether the world is being too hard on the youngster. When Raducanu won her first grand slam US Open 2021, she was merely 18 years old. A qualifier at the tournament, she might have been unprepared for the stardom that was to follow after her winning the finals. She set a record by being the only qualifier to win a grand slam in the open era. This record some tennis experts feel might never get broken.

Emma Raducanu fired her coach Andrew Richardson after she lifted the U.S. Open trophy. It left people wondering whether it was the right move as she tasted success under the coach. Prior to that, she had fired her coach Nigel Sears only after 4 months. This shows that she is highly inconsistent with her ecosystem and that might be a cause of worry for the youngster.

Tennis experts believe she has a chance at being very successful. If Emma Raducanu is able to cut through the noise surrounding her and recover well from her injuries, she could go the distance. But the most crucial thing for her would be to be able to enjoy the game. If she can have a long-lasting team, discipline, and practice consistently she could once again be the NEXT BIG THING.

Both Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez who was her opponent in U.S. Open 2021 have failed to win much after 2021. Success came very abruptly for the duo. As in other fields like movies and music, early stardom could be difficult to handle. Raducanu got a string of endorsement deals to post her grand slam win. All of these things might have shifted her focus from the game. There is still time for this young gun to make a comeback and prove her detractors wrong. Hard work, recovery, practice, and discipline will be key.
