World No.1 Iga Swiatek has continued her rich vein of form at the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers as the Polish superstar defeated Romania’s Andreea Prisacariu. Swiatek’s fine win helped Poland to qualify for the finals of the BJK Cup for the very first time. The finals of the tournament will be held in November this year.

Swiatek who started her Billie Jean King Cup journey with the win on Friday handing Poland a 2-0 lead have continued that onslaught with a double bagel against her opponent Priscariu by winning 6-0, 6-0 as she broke her six times en route to victory. The 20-year-old started her Billie Jean King Cup campaign with a win on Friday as she defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-1 6-0.

The Pole has been in fantastic form and therefore she won the Sunshine Double by beating Naomi Osaka in the finals of the Miami Open. However, she has translated that tennis while representing Poland at the prestigious BJK Cup. Also, it is a very proud moment for her and also for all of Poland as she has propelled them to the final round of the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time.

Swiatek shared how much it means to her to help her country get to the last stage. She adds how it was an aim for a long time and the gradual progress that they have made is very evident from their recent performances as a team. The 20-year-old missed the action last year but she felt that it has been a long time coming.

“I’m really proud. I was really working hard for that. Even though I didn’t play last year, I feel it’s been a long journey and it took us a few years to progress step by step and qualify for the finals,” Swiatek said after the win over Priscariu.

Lastly, she also reveals how they have not only qualified for the sake of but to make a mark in the last stage of the prestigious tournament. She believes that Poland can make a mark as they are a very strong team. “It just shows what a strong team we are. Hopefully, in the finals, we’re going to show even more progress and we’re going to succeed,” she concluded.
