‘It would be better for tennis if he was playing all the major events but…’ Andy Murray URGES Novak Djokovic to get vaccinated
Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic
World No.1 Novak Djokovic has been the center of attention for the last few months despite not playing for the last 3 months. His vaccination stand has shaken the world, of which, many are against him. Djokovic has made it clear that he won’t get vaccinated until there is substantial proof of the effectiveness of the vaccine and for that, he is ready to miss tournaments.
Majority of people are against Djokovic as they think that he is a threat to everyone around him. Fellow players too have urged him to get vaccinated and want him to be back on tour very soon. Recently, Andy Murray too shared his insights on Djokovic’s vaccination scenario.
He said that he doesn’t agree with Djokovic’s decision as it would be in everyone’s favor if he gets vaccinated. Murray also said that knowing Djokovic since a very young age, he didn’t find the treatment he received in Australia as just.
“I don’t agree with his decision, I think it would be a lot easier for him if he was to get vaccinated,” he said. “But I didn’t like seeing him in the situation he was in Australia as someone I respect and have known since I was a child. I didn’t like seeing that.”
‘I don’t think it’s great for tennis if our best player is not competing in the major events’: Murray
Murray further said that it would be better for tennis if Djokovic plays all the major events as it isn’t good for tennis if the best player isn’t competing. But Murray also said that the Serb knew all the consequences before coming to the decision.
“It would be better for tennis if he was playing all the major events, but there are consequences to the decision he has made and he obviously has to accept that, but I don’t think it’s great for tennis if our best player is not competing in the major events,” he said.
Murray will now head to California for the Indian Wells Masters whereas Djokovic has sailed into the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships where he’ll face Jiri Vesely.
