Currently ranked 114th in the world and one of Novak Djokovic‘s harshest critics, Nick Kyrgios came forward in defence of the Serbian as the player was taken into federal quarantine centre yet again despite he won the earlier appeal to have his visa sanctioned and get entry into the country.

However, as expected, Australian Immigration minister Alex Hawke exercised his power to cancel the Serbian’s visa and start the process to deport him out of the country which has been again challenged by the lawyers of Djokovic while the player returns to the federal hotel for another day’s stay as the verdict on the case is set to be announced on 16th January, Sunday.

Speaking about the whole situation with Djokovic getting in and out of detainment and getting criticised for his decision to ask for an exemption instead of getting vaccinated, Kyrgios sympathised with Djokovic and toned the situation that is being created by the Australian government about the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

“Hawke said that he’s a threat to our borders. Ahh, no he’s not. It’s like he’s a weapon of mass destruction at the moment. He’s here to play tennis, he’s not doing anything to anyone. I understand the anger towards him for not being vaccinated and getting a medical exemption, but if you look at it at face value, he’s got his paperwork,” said Kyrgios as reported by journalist Sasa Ozmo.

With the players divided on their opinion of whether Djokovic is right or not, Kyrgios was surprised by the reactions of the players who according to Nick have failed to support one of their own when he is counting on their support as he has been stranded.

“Novak has reached out to me personally on IG saying “thank you for standing up for me”. I was not the one he was expecting to go out in the media and have his back. As a human, he’s obviously feeling quite alienated in all of this. As a human, that’s a dangerous place to be in – when you feel like the world is against you like you can’t do anything right.

“On a human level, he needs support from other players. Tsitispas, I get you to have your views on vaccination. Murray, we can always count to say the right thing, Nadal whatever… But bro, where is your support for the guy? Imagine how he’s feeling, he probably wants a little bit of support from other players. And he’s getting it from me, what the f**k?” added Kyrgios further expressing the shock that out of all the players, it is Nick who is supporting the Serbian.
