Ashleigh Barty incredibly came back from losing 5-1 in the second set to beat Danielle Collins in straight sets in the final of the Australian Open 2022. With the win, Barty yet again showed why she is World No.1 and proved her credentials as the pre-tournament favorite.
With the title win, Barty now has three Grand Slam titles to her name, one of which she has won in front of her home crowd. Throughout the whole contest, the 25-year-old was constantly cheered on by the home crowd, which must have helped her to make the incredible comeback in the second set.
Barty brings the Australian Open trophy to Uluru
As the celebrations roll on for Ashleigh Barty after her stunning Australian Open title win, the Aussie took some time off to bring the trophy to the rock of Uluru for a visit. The visit left Barty struggling to find words to describe the impression the experience left on her.
The world No.1 traveled to the Northern Territory as a part of her role as the Tennis Australia First Nations ambassador, taking the trophy with her as she visited sacred sites and played tennis with children in the red dust, with Uluru in the background.
Barty later spoke about her experience, revealing that the visit to Uluru left her overwhelmed. The Aussie stated that the visit helped her understand how deep a spiritual connection Uluru has for some communities.
″It’s really hard to put into words, just because it’s a feeling. When you actually go to Uluru for the first time like I did, it was just an incredible experience for me to understand how much of a spiritual connection Uluru has for so many communities,” said Barty.
She also called the experience a special one, labeling the site as the heartbeat of the nation. The 26-year-old also revealed that she had always wanted to visit Uluru, and is happy now that she has done it.
