Iga Swiatek and Anett Kontaveit

Iga Swiatek came out on top in Qatar, which featured a number of high-profile players battling against one another. In 2022, the 20-year-old Polish player has been in excellent form. Swiatek won the Qatar Open after defeating Anett Kontaveit in the final following a tremendous performance at the Australian Open. The 20-year-old has already won the French Open in 2020 and is steadily climbing the rankings ladder.

The finals in Qatar saw Swiatek destroy Kontaveit in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. The Polish rose four places in the WTA rankings as a result of this victory, reaching a career-high fourth place. In terms of the WTA rankings, Ashleigh Barty remains at the top. Swiatek, on the other hand, is getting there, having won her 4th career title. She came close to winning another Grand Slam this year, reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the first time. However, she fell to Danielle Collins.

Meanwhile, Kontaveit, the Qatar Open finalist, has climbed two spots to No. 5 in the WTA rankings. Anett had a nine-match winning streak before losing to Iga, which was tragically snapped by Iga. Barbora Krejcikova, the victor of the French Open last year, climbed one spot to achieve her career-high ranking of 2.
