Ons Jabeur registers a win in her debut at the Birmingham Classic as she wins 6-4, 6-2 in just over an hour against American Caty McNally in the first round to advance for the 2nd round.
Jabeur comes to Birmingham from a 4th round to defeat American teen-sensation Coco Gauff at the 2021 French Open, ending a good Clay season for the Tunisian.
Leylah Fernandez who is making her career Grass debut at the Birmingham Classic 2021 wins her debut clash on the surface. The 18-year old Canadian turned Pro in 2019 but didn’t play on Grass until now and has made a winning start at her first Grass tournament.
Leylah defeated Yafan Wang 7-5, 6-3 in just under the 1.5 hour mark to qualify for the 2nd round where she will meet tour veteran Jabeur.
