‘There’s no sign that Novak Djokovic will collapse at the final hurdle,’ feels John McEnroe

Novak Djokovic
World No.1 Novak Djokovic is inching closer to becoming the only player in the Open Era to win a Calendar Slam. The Serbian star is just a match away from not only grabbing the 2021 US Open, but also winning his fourth consecutive Grand Slam of the year.
An incredible journey that started in Melbourne, Australia earlier in the year is about to finish off on a high in New York, this Sunday. Djokovic will now take on World No.2 Daniil Medvedev in the finals of the US Open.
Meanwhile, former World No.1 and six-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe’s prognosis on Djokovic’s yearly path has been on the money. The American had earlier predicted that the 34-year-old would go onto achieve the Grand Slam. Interestingly, McEnroe had also called for the Serb to lose at the Tokyo Olympics.
Speaking ahead of the all-important moment for Djokovic, McEnroe opined that the top-ranked player is habitually saving his best tennis for the important matches. The American legend made the comment in relation of Djokovic has been playing tennis within himself in the initial round.
“Novak wants to sweep this record (the Grand Slam, editor’s note). I can see him winning between two and four other Grand Slam tournaments. I think he’s saving the best for last; it gets stronger as the tournament progresses. He’s obviously human, but there’s no sign that he’s going to collapse. The way he played against Berrettini, especially the last three sets, was his best tennis of the entire tournament. “
Medvedev one final hurdle

Interestingly, Djokovic and Medvedev have met eight times on the ATP tour and have locked horns twice on the Grand Slams.
Moreover, the 20-time Grand Slam will also surpass his rivals, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the all-time list for most Grand Slams won, if he manages to win the final Grand Slam of the year.
It is also important to note that the 20-time Grand Slam champion has the US Open only on three separate occasions.
