Juan Martin del Potro throughout his career has been an advocate of not retiring because of injury. He has had knee problems for a long time in his career and hasn’t been able to find a proper solution.

del Potro was a major source of competition to the Big three, besides him, Andy Murray, Dominic Thiem, Steve Wawrinka are the only ones who’ve managed to put a dent in the legacy of the big three.

However, when Andy Murray decided to put an end to his career after a loss in the first round of the Australian Open 2019. del Porto supported him and tweeted, “Andy just watched your conference. Please don’t stop trying. Keep fighting. I can imagine your pain and sadness. I hope you can overcome this. You deserve to retire on your own terms, whenever that happens. We love you @andy_murray and we want to see you happy and doing well.”

Murray made an unexpected comeback after two hip surgeries at the Australian Open this year and was able to make it to the second round where he was eliminated by the Japanese Taro Daniel in straight sets. He will be eyeing to contest at Wimbledon this year and try to win his fourth grand slam title.

del Porto has been one of the greatest players who has shown his grit and determination time and time again. He has surprised people by making unbelievable comebacks and defeating the best in the business. Even though del Porto has announced his retirement and looking at his knee condition it is highly unlikely that the Argentine will play tennis again but his fans will never rule out the possibility of him making a comeback like Murray.
