Aslan Karatsev makes it to the finals of the Kremlin Cup for the first time in his 6th tournament appearance and reaches the finals without dropping a single set. The 2nd seeded Russian defeated compatriot Karen Khachanov 7-6(7), 6-1 to book his spot in his 3rd finals of the season and 2nd on hardcourts having previously won the 2021 Dubai Championships in a surprising title run.

Marin Cilic is only the 5th player in history to win back-to-back Kremlin Cup titles, winning his first in 2014 and then again at the 2015 Kremlin Cup. The Croatian reaches his 3rd Kremlin Cup final defeating Richard Berankis 6-3, 6-4 and has now dropped only 1 set this week in the Russian capital. This will be his 2nd finals qualification after previously qualifying and winning the 2021 Stuttgart Open.

Aslan Karatsev vs Marin Cilic: Prediction

Aslan Karatsev
Aslan Karatsev

Karatsev will come into the tie with a career Hardcourt record of 135-67 and is 23-9 on the surface this season while being 36-18 for the season across all surfaces. Cilic will take the court with a career Hardcourt record of 231-133 and has a 6-9 record on hardcourts this season and has a season record of 26-17 across all surfaces.

Looking at these numbers, their past performances and recent form, Aslan Karatsev seems the favourite for the title but Cilic will not be a pushover given his vast experience of playing in the big stages and will surely make things difficult for the home favourite Russian.

Prediction: Aslan Karatsev to win in straight sets.
