Former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber is playing her first tournament after a successful Wimbledon outing where she reached the semifinal. She has continued her good form and has beaten two amazing hard court players. She ousted Maria Sakkari in straight sets 6-2,6-2 in the opening round and then got the better of 4th seed Elina Svitolina 7-5,2-6,6-4 in the second round.

As for her opponent, Jelena Ostapenko, she has seen a dip in her form in the North American swing. She had an amazing Clay season and followed up with a win at Eastbourne. But at the Canadian Open last week, she lost her opening round match to Czech Katerina Siniakova in straight sets 1-6,3-6.

However this week in Cincinnati, she has won two amazing opening round matches without dropping a set. She got the better of Tamara Zidansek in the first round 7-5,6-1 and then beat Australian Open runner-up Jennifer Brady 7-6(2),4-5 to enter the Round of 16.
