Latest ATP Rankings post Australian Open 2022: Novak Djokovic still at top, Rafael Nadal solidifies his position
Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev with their trophies at the 2022 Australian Open
Despite all the drama ahead of the 2022 Australian Open, the tournament has been one of the best in recent history and saw tennis of the highest quality. Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal scripted history in the Final of the tournament, beating Daniil Medvedev in one of the best grand slam finals of all time. Nadal won the match in 5hrs 24mins in 5 sets, 2-6,6-7(5),6-4,6-4,7-5 to win his record 21st major title.
Overall, there weren’t many upsets in the tournament in the first week but still, there are slight changes in the rankings table. Daniil Medvedev was to become the new World No.1 if he’d won the final but as of now, he settles for the No.2 spot. Despite not playing the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic retains the top spot but will drop 2000 points in a fortnight from last year’s Australian Open.
Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas remain at the No.3 and No.4 spot after gaining handful of points. Australian Open champion Rafael Nadal inches closer to the Top 4 and is just 300 points away from Tsitsipas. Semifinalist Matteo Berrettini rises a spot to No.6 and achieves a new career high ranking and as a result, Andrey Rublev drops to No.7.
New ATP Rankings
Young guns, Casper Ruud, Felix Auger Aliassime and Jannik Sinner wrap up the top 10. Quarterfinalist Denis Shapovalov gains 2 spots and is the new World No.12. He pushes down Cameron Norrie and Diego Schwartzman a place each after the duo had a terrible outing in Melbourne. Hubert Hurkacz and Aslan Karatsev are also in the Top 15.
