Nick Kyrgios is a controversial figure in tennis due to his antics on the field. He loves to get under the skin of the opponent which is why Stefanos Tsitsipas branded him as a “bully” post their third-round clash at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
During the same tournament last year, Britain’s Liam Broady expressed his opinions regarding Kyrgios, stating that though Kyrgios is a man to cause plenty of controversies, his gamesmanship is part of the sport. But at the same time, Broady said that Kyrgios shouldn’t cross the line by disrespecting those who are part of the sport.
“I never want a player to be disrespectful to fans, umpires line judges. I think that crosses the line. Nick’s gamesmanship to his opponent is part of the sport, at the end of the day, if it wasn’t then it would be in the rules you couldn’t do some of the things he does. I’m all for it. You win a match however you can and mental warfare is part of any sport. He’s a master of the dark arts,” Broady had told talkSPORT.com.
Kyrgios was fined by Wimbledon officials for spitting in the direction of a fan during his first-round match against Paul Jubb. He received another fine for four swearing during his heated clash against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Australian also broke the all-white dress code at SW19 by wearing red Air Jordan trainers and a red cap while giving an interview.
Talking about Broady’s campaign at the All England Club in 2022, he edged past Lukas Klein with the score of 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3 in the first round. Then he had to overcome Diego Schwartzman in the second round 6-2, 4-6, 0-6, 7-6, 6-1 before ending his campaign in the third round to Alex de Minaur in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

Nick Kyrgios reached the final at 2022 Wimbledon but lost the final
On the other hand, Nick Kyrgios had a dream run at the 2022 Wimbledon. He started his campaign with a difficult match in the first round against Paul Jubb where the match stretched to five sets with the Australian securing the win 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, 6-7, 7-5.
He breezed past Filip Krajinovic in the next round in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 before his heated encounter with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round. The drama-filled match ended in the Australians’ favour 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6.
Kyrgios yet again secured a hard-fought win by beating Brandon Nakashima 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2. And after an easy with over Cristian Garin, he faced Rafael Nadal in the semi-final but as the latter withdrew from the match, the 28-year-old faced Novak Djokovic in the final.
Kyrgios was able to win the first set but was easily thumped by the Serb in the next two sets before the latter won the fourth set 7-6 to emerge victorious for the seventh time at the All-England Club.
