Novak Djokovic’s results and trophies are the strongest in history, says Lorenzo Sonego
Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Sonego
World No.1 Novak Djokovic has not been seen in action after losing the 2021 US Open finals to World No.2 Daniil Medvedev. The Serbian superstar also skipped the recently concluded Indian Wells Masters. However, the 20-time Grand Slam champion is expected to return for the upcoming Bercy Masters in Paris next month.
Meanwhile, Italian player Lorenzo Sonego believes that Djokovic’s has had incredible results on the ATP tour over the years, and even opined that the top-ranked player is the strongest ever in terms of trophies won.
As reported by Tennishead Sonego said, “Djokovic has had incredible results, is practically the strongest in history in terms of trophies won. He has the grandest objectives, like winning the calendar-year Grand Slam which he almost did this year.”
However, the Italian youngster also added that Djokovic too is human and can have difficulties in handling pressure, as we saw in the US Open finals in New York, a month ago.
“Nole has shown that we are all human beings, and that the pressure is very difficult to manage. If no one has managed to do it in the last 50 years there is a reason. And anyway, winning three Grand Slams and making the final in the last one is something that only phenomenal people can achieve. Djokovic has won everything, he only thinks of being calm and having fun.”
Djokovic and Sonego have met two times on the tour till now. Although their head-to-head is locked at 1-1, the 24-year-old Italian did beat the 34-year-old Serb in the quarterfinals of Vienna in 2020.
Novak Djokovic keeps his vaccination status private
Despite stern rules coming from Australia about the Covid-19 vaccination, Djokovic hasn’t been comfortable letting the media and fans know about his vaccination status. With the jab becoming mandatory to participate in the Australian Open in 2022, it remains to be seen what the nine-time champion responds in days to come.
