Recently, former World No.7 Mardy Fish released his documentary, titled “UNTOLD: Breaking Point” on Netflix. As the documentary revolves around Fish’s career, it was obvious that the same would entail information and interesting anecdotes on 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer as well.

We also saw and read on how 2003 US Open champion, Andy Roddick who also featured in the aforementioned, documentary heaped praise on the Swiss maestro. Likewise, Fish too had little hesitation in sharing his experience of how he got overwhelmed by Federer’s brilliance on court.

“Roger had this aura of invincibility about him where you just could never breathe, cause he could turn it like that,” Fish said. “Boom. Point’s over.”

The former top-ranked American also recalled his match against the former World No.1 at the grass ATP 500 tournament in Halle, Germany. The two players met in the 2004 final in Halle, and despite the occasion, Federer swept past his opponent with a 6-0, 3-0 lead, inside the first hour of play. In the end, the Swiss player thrashed Fish in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.

“We played in the final of 2004 in Halle,” Fish reflected.

Roger went up 6-0, 3-0 in like 25 minutes. I’m like ‘unbelievable, this guy’s gonna beat me 6-0, 6-0 in the finals of a tournament’. I think he probably felt bad for all of the people that had paid money to come watch, and I’m still to this day convinced that he prolonged the match a little bit longer so it was 6-0, 6-3. He made it like an hour,” he further added.

Federer and Fish clashed nine times on the ATP tour. The Swiss player completely dominated the American by winning eight times. Fish’s only win came in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters event in 2008.

The two players were due for another meeting in the fourth round of 2012 US Open. Unfortunately, Fish didn’t show up at the Arthur Ashe Stadium that night, citing mental health issues. In the end, Federer was given a walkover.
