‘Once in a decade moment’: Tennis fans shocked to see Maria Sharapova partying with old rival Serena Williams at the MET Gala 2021

There have been innumerable rivalries in sports but only a few have gained cult status. One such animosity in tennis which added more flair to women’s tennis is that of Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. The two superstars of the game have been up involved in a number of unforgettable matches.

Maria and Serena are both known for playing high-octane tennis, so evidently, their games were always filled with a lot of expectations and anticipations. Although the head-to-head record suggests that Serena Williams had an overwhelming advantage over the Russian on the court, the matches between them were never short of spectacular.

Recently, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams were spotted partying together at the MET Gala which caught the attention of a lot of fans. Once fierce rivals, the two were seemingly enjoying to the fullest at the event. This pleasantly surprised fans who called this meet a once-in-a-decade moment.

Their rivalry goes way back. When Maria Sharapova released her autobiography, ‘Unstoppable: My Life So far,’ she talked in great detail about how Serena has had a huge impact on her overall career. Moreover, if we look at the head-to-head record, Serena has defeated Sharapova 20 times in her career, whereas Sharapova has emerged victoriously only on two occasions.

It would be fair to say that the rivalry between the two top stars has aged like a fine wine. Back in 2012 during the draw ceremony of WTA Tour Championships, the two were chatting and giggling a lot which was pointed out by a journalist as well, and how Sharapova replied to that made everyone take notice of the two.

Sharapova had replied by saying, “you do not want to know what we talked about.” When the reporter replied by saying “I do,” the Russian ended the conversation by saying, “its not PG-13.” Just like her reply, the relationship between the two top stars has been fiery, fierce and simply incredible.
