Matteo Berrettini recalls his time playing against the World No. 1 player Novak Djokovic. In 2021 Berrettini played the Wimbledon Finals against Djokovic, where Djokovic beats the player and becomes the Champion. After the match when Berrettini was asked about Djokovic, he said that “Novak was better than me, as he is a great champion.”

He played against Djokovic four times and ended up losing each one. Though lost, he is ready for future matches and hopes that this was not his last Grand Slam Final as he is eager to win the title this time. On being asked more about Djokovic, Berrettini added that “He never did anything wrong to me, except to beat me everytime we face each other”, he also said that Djokovic has different mind than other players, and what he finds most commendable is his desire to win in spite of all the achievements he has already added to his name.

“He is right in the history of the sport and he deserves all the plaudits.” Djokovic also said that the tournament was more than battle to him.

Berrettini recalls his early days of competing in the Junior Wimbledon

“In 2014, I lost in the second round at junior Wimbledon. When I left the court, I told myself that such a place should be seen at least once in a lifetime. I always had the feeling that something special could have happened there, but I would never have imagined it so special,” said Berrettini on his early experience at Wimbledon.

According to him the place has a special impact on his life and says that such a place should be visited at least once. He also shared his childhood memory of constructing Wimbledon Tennis Trophy with the materials he had in his bedroom. In his 2014 tournament he lost but came back with his spirits high and a desire to win. “Winning Wimbledon was always the biggest dream of mine as a child.”
