“Nobody won 20 Slams before Roger, Rafa, and Novak”: Medvedev reckons it is not shameful that this generation will not match the Big 3’s achievements
Daniil Medvedev, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, it is indeed a privilege for all tennis fans that these three have played in the same era. All have got a distinct playing style, all have achieved a lot in their respective careers. In fact, all of them have been so good that it is still difficult to come up with just one name when we talk about the greatest player of this era.
Tied at 20 Grand Slam titles each, tennis fans are eagerly waiting to see which star gets to the 21st title first. Needless to say, with recurring injuries to Federer and Nadal, Novak Djokovic seems to be the most likely of the big 3 to win the 21st title.
“I don’t see why our generation would miss on something”: Daniil Medvedev
The three stars have actually done so much for the game that it would be a huge loss to tennis when they decide to say goodbye to the court. Moreover, many have opined that it is rather shameful that the current generation will never be able to match the achievements of the Big 3.
Talking about the same, World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, who won his first Grand Slam this season, had a few things to say. He claimed that this generation might not win as many Grand Slams as the Big 3 did, but nobody before them was able to do it either.
“I don’t see why our generation would miss on something. Of course, maybe we don’t win 20 Grand Slams, yet nobody did before Roger, Rafa and Novak, so they were also worse than them, if we can say like this,” he said. “It’s definitely not going to be a shame,” Medvedev further added.
The Russian has had a pretty good season this time around. The US Open title win would have given him a lot of confidence. Although he wasn’t able to defend his title at ATP Finals, we sure can expect the ‘Ruthless Russian’ to win more Grand Slams in the near future.
