Top seed Daniil Medvedev began his campaign in Miami with a thumping win over 3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray, 6-4, 6-2 The Russian faced an early exit at the Indian Wells, but there was no such setback this time around as Medvedev put on a dominant display against the Brit to notch up his second win over Murray in as many meetings, to book a place in the third round for the third consecutive season.

Pedro Martinez started his 2022 season with a string of early exits before turning things around with a title triumph at the Chile Open. At the Indian Wells, the Spaniard was knocked out in the second round by Cameron Norrie. In the Miami Open, he scored an upset over 27th seed Cristian Garin 7-6(2), 6-2 to progress to the third round, his best result so far in Miami.
