After Ashleigh Barty‘s shocking retirement, it was Iga Swiatek who took over the World No. 1 crown from the Australian. The young Polish star will now have to carry that weight around and perform according. The 20-year-old now is having a great year with semifinal exits in Adelaide and the Australian Open followed by titles in Qatar and at the Indian Wells. Hence she is one of the players tipped to win the Miami Open but for that to happen Swiatek will need to overcome the challenge of Coco Gauff.
Swiatek has been very clinical with her matches in Miami till now. She started her campaign against Viktorija Golubic with a 6-2, 6-0 win. She followed it up with another dominating win against USA’s Madison Brengle with a 6-0, 6-3 scoreline. Hence facing Gauff can be her first big challenge in this tournament.
Gauff on the other hand has had a very underwhelming year as she was knocked out of the Australian Open in the first round. her performances in Dubai and Indian Wells was nothing noteworthy. She only reached the quarterfinals at the Qatar Open where she lost out against Maria Sakkari.
So this is an opportunity for the young American to turn the tables and change the course of her season. But surely it will be a tough task as Swiatek is in great form and she will have to pull off a massive upset to knock her out of the Miami Open.

Iga Swiatek has form on her side and has dropped only five games en route to the round of 16 means she is oozing confidence on the court. Her serving percentage has also been very good and her movement feels like she is under no pressure, that is when the young Pole plays her best tennis.
But for Gauff that is not good news as it will mean another early exit this season. The American up till now has faced two Chinese opponents in the tournament. She started her journey with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Wang Qiang. The 18-year-old followed it up with another win against the experienced Zhang Shuai. Gauff had to toil hard as she defeated Zhang 7-6(1), 7-5 in a very close match that could have gone to a third set.
So overall it looks like a clean sweep for Iga Swiatek based on current form. Gauff pulling off an upset will be rather surprising as she has not been at her best recently.
