Hubert Hurkacz has been in sensational form in the last few events this year. The Pole is also the reigning champion at the Miami Open so the stakes are pretty high for the 25-year-old star. He started his campaign against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the second round with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win. The match went on for one hour and 37 minutes as Rinderknech did well to match the Pole in the first set but his inability to earn break points meant that Hurkacz clinched the first set on a tiebreaker.

The 25-year-old struggled to secure the breakpoints when they came his way or else the game would have finished way before. But still, Hurkacz had plenty of positives to take forward, especially with his serves. He won 75% points from his first serve and won 69% points on his second serve. The 25-year-old delivered as many as 17 aces without even committing a single double fault.

So the win against the Frenchman in the last round will surely give Hurkacz a lot of confidence as he faces Aslan Karatsev. The Russian may not have been at his best form recently but on his day he can be a very tricky customer even for the best players.

Karatsev started his Miami Open campaign with a comfortable win over another French tennis star Ugo Humbert in the second round with a 7-5, 6-2 domination. Karatsev had a solid game as he converted four of his possible eight breakpoints. The Russian always had the upper hand in the game and he never allowed Humbert to dictate his term. The win must have been a morale booster for the Russian who will be the underdog in his next game against Polish star Hubert Hurkacz in the third round of the Miami Open.

Hurkacz and Karatsev have faced each other two times and both have won a game each. The Russian defeated Hurkacz in the round of 16 of the San Diego Open last year on September 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. The Pole has also won against him once in the round of 16 of the Indian Wells last year with a 6-1, 6-3 domination over the Russian.

On current form, Hubert Hurkacz will start as the favorites against Aslan Karatsev in the third round of the Miami Open. The Polish tennis star has been in sensational form recently as he reached the Round of 16 in this year’s Indian Wells and Rotterdam Open. However, his best performance came at the Dubai Tennis Champions where he reached the semifinals before losing to Andrey Rublev.

Karatsev on the other hand was not that great in the Indian Wells and even did not show up well in Dubai. So the onus will be on him to prove the doubters. But it looks like Hurkacz is a genuine favorite of this third-round clash in Miami.
