But she came unstuck there, losing 5-7, 1-6 to Elena Rybakina to leave the Japanese capital empty handed. She had a difficult Wimbledon too, losing in 3 sets to Ons Jabeur in the third round. She is seeded 5th this time around at Montreal.

Katerina Siniakova had to overcome Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. The Czech player has been very confident in her first tournament after almost a month of hiatus, since the Prague championship in mid-July.
