Runner-up at the 2009 Indian Wells, Andy Murray makes a good start to his 2021 campaign at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden as the Brit defeats Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-2 in the 1st round to enter to continue his streak of winning the 1st round match in the desert. Murray comes from a 2nd round defeat to eventual champion Casper Ruud at the 2021 San Diego Open.

Spanish teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz is all set to make his debut at the Indian Wells Masters and also gets a seeding at the tournament. Carlos returns to action for the first time since his emphatic quarter-final run at the 2021 US Open where he became the youngest teenager in the Open Era to reach the last-8. He was however injured mid-match and has not played on the Tour since.

Andy Murray vs Carlos Alcaraz: Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz

Murray will come into the clash with a career Hardcourt record of 365-107 and is 4-4 on the surface for the season while being 15-11 for the season across all surfaces. Alcaraz will take the court with a career Hardcourt record of 28-9 and is 15-7 on the surface this season having an overall surface record of 38-16 for the season.

While the numbers certainly point towards Murray, Alcaraz can certainly surprise the Brit who has been struggling for form and consistency. It will be difficult to predict who takes the match home, but Alcaraz seems the favourite to advance ahead given his better athleticism and recent run in New York. But it is certain that Murray won’t be a pushover for the Spaniard.

Match Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in 3-sets.
