Champion at the 2019 European Open, Andy Murray grinds out a win against Frances Tiafoe in the longest 3-set match of the season as the former World No. 1 beat Tiafoe 7-6(2) 6-7(7) 7-6(8) in a match that went for 3 hours and 45 minutes. Murray has put in some great performances in recent times and as the Brit said himself in his post-match interview, it was one of the toughest and longest matches he played.

Seeded 2nd in the tournament, Diego Schwartzman will start his campaign in Antwerp directly against Murray in the second round. The Argentine comes from back-to-back quarter-final defeats, first at the 2021 San Diego Open and recently at the 2021 Indian Wells Masters where Diego lost to eventual champion, Britain’s Cameron Norrie in straight-sets that had a bagel in the first set for him.

Diego will come into the clash with a career Hardcourt record of 85-75 and is 18-10 on the surface this season while having a season record of 32-20 across all surfaces. Murray will take the court with a career Hardcourt record of 366-108 and is 5-5 on Hardcourts this season having a 17-12 record for the season across all surfaces.

Looking at these numbers, their recent form and past few performances, it is difficult to predict an outright winner as Diego does not have a good Hardcourt record but he is well-rested as compared to the exhausted Murray who will have just 1 day off to relax. Taking this element into factor, Schwartzman seems the one to go ahead but we can surely expect another sensational performance from Murray.

Prediction: Diego Schwartzman to win in 3-sets.
