Japanese Tennis star and former world No.1 Naomi Osaka has finally made it to the quarterfinals by beating Alison Riske with an absolutely exhilarating and thrilling performance. Osaka is yet to cross the semi-final stage but has looked flawless this week in Miami having cruised into the quarter-finals.

As Naomi reaches the last-8 in Miami for the second time, she thinks that her coach might not be entirely pleased with the outcome even though she won in straight sets. The reason for her coach not being really pleased she says is due to her not listening to what her coach Wim Fissette was saying.

“Wim told me to hit heavy on her forehand but clearly I was playing her game because for me I have to think to hit heavy and I just wanted to see what would happen if I just played regular- how I wanted to do, so he might scold me for that a bit,” said Osaka jokingly to Tennis Channel.

She further added, “I focused on my serve and tried to do well with my returns. I had a crazy amount of breakpoints that I wasn’t able to convert but I am grateful I got to the point where I had those breakpoints.”

Before the Indian Wells and the Miami Open, former world no.1 Naomi Osaka was pictured watching Nick Kyrgios‘s serve up close. When asked about it, she told Tennis Channel that she was nervous to ask players for “advice” and therefore does not ask them anything. She said that was the perfect opportunity for her to see the service as she had only seen the shots on Youtube.

Osaka next faces star player Danielle Collins, having already defeated 13th seed Angelique Kerber in the second round. When asked about Angelique Kerber, Osaka said, “I just want to make the most of the time I have here. She further adds, ” I learned a lot in Indian Wells with what happened. I want to play every point and have fun while doing it. I actually wasn’t that comfortable. Her shots were really good and she was moving really well, I thought I just had to dig through it.”

Naomi Osaka has faced Collins, who is an Australian Open runner-up, back in 2018 when Osaka emerged as the winner. When asked about it, Osaka said, “I don’t really think about the past too much. I know she is playing amazing right now and a player grows over time so I think this match will be much different. I can only take it one day at a time.”

The four-time Grand Slam champion will no doubt have a tough time in the next round but we’ll have to wait and see how she fares in her journey. The young star’s journey has just started and she will only continue to climb the ladder of success in the coming future.
