Rafael Nadal claimed his second Australian Open title on Sunday, as he defeated Daniil Medvedev in five sets in an epic finale. The Spaniard came back from behind to defeat the Russian, as he was 2-0 down, and looked all out of sorts.
However, Rafael Nadal did the unthinkable and turned the game on its head, making Daniil Medvedev work twice as hard for each point. Now, Rafael Nadal moves onto 21 majors, with his Australian Open triumph, one more than Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
Over the years, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have shared a great rivalry. Now, the rivalry has turned into a great friendship off court. Roger Federer took to Instagram to congratulate Rafael Nadal for his incredible feat.

Roger Federer stated that he is incredibly delighted to be sharing the Big stage with the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Moreover, he is honored to play a part in pushing Nadal to achieve even more success.
Roger Federer stated that Nadal’s fighting spirit inspires not only millions of people around the world, but also Federer himself. “What a match! To my friend and great rival, Rafael Nadal. Heartiest congratulations on becoming the first man to win 21 Grandslam titles. A few months ago we were joking about both being on crutches.” wrote Federer.
“Amazing. Never underestimate a great champion. Your incredible work ethic. Dedication and fighting spirit are an inspiration to me and countless others around the world. I am proud to share this era with you and honored to play a role in pushing you to achieve more,” Federer wrote.
Rafael Nadal will now aim to claim his 22nd major title at the French Open in about 3-4 months time. For now, he would love to enjoy this special victory, and take some time off as he prepares for the clay court season which commences in April. He is expected to play a couple of tournaments in between.
