Novak Djokovic had a nightmare start to the 2022 season. He was denied entry into Australia due to his vaccination status and hence wasn’t allowed to defend his Australian Open title. Not only was he denied into the country, but he was also treated very poorly and had to indulge in a 10-day legal battle with the Australian government and judiciary.

Needless to say, this incident would’ve taken a toll on his mental well-being. But Djokovic’s comeback has been smooth so far depicting his strong mental state. Currently, at the ongoing French Open, his coach Goran Ivanisevic has termed him a genius for taking so little time to be back on his highest level. He said that 95% of the players would’ve never recovered had they gone through what Djokovic did in Australia

“He is a genius because it takes so little for him to be back on his highest level. Believe me, 95% of the players would have never recovered had they gone through what Djokovic did in Australia. But we expect him to just get over it: “You have to do this and that in a few weeks’ time”. It does not work that way, he was very affected mentally,” he said.

He further added that people at times do not realize the amount of pressure Djokovic is under given that he is the World No.1 and everyone wants his throne. He then said that as a team, it’s their job to support him.

“People do not comprehend the amount of extreme pressure he is under in every sense. He is the number one, there is always someone who wants to take him off the throne, so our job as a team is to protect him and help him,” he said.
