Rafael Nadal breezed through his third-round encounter against Botic Van de Zandschulp at the French Open yesterday to get to the next round. With this victory, he moved closer to winning his 14th Roland Garros title. He will take on Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime next in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, at the French Open, we’ve already witnessed some contentious moments involving world No. 7 Andrey Rublev and Romanian tennis star Irina-Camelia Begu. After winning his third-round match, Nadal addressed the occurrences, as well as his own thoughts on how a tennis player should react on the court.
“From my point of view, it’s not good”- Rafael Nadal
Nadal, a 21-time Grand Slam champion, spent time with Tennis Channel and discussed his third-round triumph at the French Open. Meanwhile, when asked about the incident involving Rublev and Begu, Rafael Nadal stated, “Well, we talked enough about that. People who knows me knows that I don’t like this kind of stuff… I see both things you know, in some way when you react with emotional stuff even if it is in a negative way, that creates a show. So, in some way you gonna be in the social networks for a while. So, that’s in some way a promotion for our sport.”
“From my point of view, it’s not a good promotion, but still a promotion. But of course, from my perspective, from my way to understand, the way that we need to act on court it’s not good but I respect every reaction. Of course, if it’s not dangerous for the people who is around,” he added shortly.
Meanwhile, the French Open has imposed fines of $8,000 and $10,000 on Rublev and Begu, respectively. Rublev famously hurled a ball at a groundworker in a fit of rage. Begu, on the other hand, smashed her racket into the ground, sending it flying into the crowd and nearly hitting a toddler.
