“They treated him shamefully” British politician Claire Fox speaks on Novak Djokovic’s deportation from Australia

Recently, with his record 7th Wimbledon triumph, Novak Djokovic has now won a total of 21 Grand Slam titles. The figure could have been higher, but at the beginning of this year, he was deported from Australia before the Australian Open, and now his participation in the US Open is also in doubt because of his stance on vaccination. As things stand now, he won’t be allowed to play in the US Open.

In light of his deportation, Djokovic has received fierce backing from British politician and House of Lords member Claire Fox. “Australia was embarrassed, Djokovic has principles”, said the Brit in her display of support for the Serbian.

In a recent statement regarding the Serbian’s participation in the US Open, Fox said, “How he behaved because of the events related to Australia and America is great. I think they treated him shamefully in Australia, where they didn’t let him play for medical reasons, that is, his decision not to introduce a vaccine into his body if he didn’t want to.”

She maintains that she is not against the vaccine and that she does not necessarily support the Serbian tennis player, but that it does not deserve the importance it is being given.

“I don’t really agree with that, but who cares? It’s not my body, it’s his body. He didn’t even cry about it all. He just stood by his decisions. Everyone asked him why he sacrificed those big tournaments just for the sake of it, and he told them: ‘Because I have principles,” he added.

“The great thing is that he is not only a brilliant tennis player, but also a brilliant tennis player with principles,” Fox concluded.
