Latvian player Jelena Ostapenko is enjoying the 2023 Australian Open. The 25-year-old has cruised through the first four rounds to set a date with Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. This would be her greatest showing in the tournament so far. 

On the way to the quarterfinals, Ostapenko overcame the American World No. 1 Coco Gauff in straight sets on Sunday. Showing her dominance, the 2017 French Open champion dropped only one set throughout the first week. She would be hoping to continue her form and reach a new height in the next week.

The first player from her country to win a Grand Slam singles tournament was not among the favorites to win the title in Melbourne Park. But her latest win against Gauff surprised everyone. Her solid performance till now will force many tennis pundits to change their opinion about her.

Caroline Wozniacki describes Jelena Ostapenko and fans can not keep quiet

The Danish former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki was present in the commentary box for the fourth-round match between Ostapenko and Coco Gauff on Sunday, giving her views about the Latvian on air. “Let’s just say I practiced with her once and chose not to do so again,” Wozniacki said. 

Wozniacki was describing the time she spent with Ostapenko and how that was more than enough for her. The comment made by Wozniacki about Ostapenko became a subject of debate among tennis fans on Twitter. One of them was quick to point out that the Danish was not the best either as it took a long to win her first Major.

“I think I’m doing it quite well this week,” Ostapenko said after the match. Ostapenko will next face Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals after the Kazakh stunned World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in straight sets.
