“A rule should be there!” Liam Broady sly dig on Novak Djokovic over his late withdrawal from the US Open amid his vaccination debate
Novak Djokovic and Liam Broady
Novak Djokovic‘s vaccination status has been the talk of the town from the start of the year and is much debatable among the tennis world. He is still unvaccinated and does not intend to take the vaccination anytime soon and it has made the matters worse for his chances of participation at the US Open. There have been some significant changes made in the guidelines for the Americans for allowing unvaccinated citizens into the country which provided a glimmer of hope for the Serbian player. But it seems he will not be able to participate in the US Open due to his vaccination status.
It all started when the Serbian legend was deported from Australia over his ‘unvaccinated‘ status even after entering the country and also could not participate in the Australian Open. This was nothing short of a nightmare experience for Djokovic where he was the defending champion. He even failed to defend his title at the French Open losing to the eventual winner Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals. But success was soon on his way when he clinched his 21st Grand Slam title and 7th Wimbledon title at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship defeating Nick Kyrgios in his maiden final appearance.
Liam Broady comments on Novak Djokovic’s situation ahead of US Open 2022
Djokovic will most likely miss playing at Flushing Meadows as he has already missed the ATP events on the hard-court season that lead up to the US Open. He is yet to withdraw his name from the Grand Slam event as he is still hopeful that some exemptions might rule out in his favor and might land him a chance to play at the US Open since he was allowed to play the same tournament last year where there was no such rule in place.
Liam Broady, the player from Britain, expressed his concerns over the late withdrawal from the main list and feels that there should be a rule in place for such cases where any player should not take such necessary actions at the last time. His concerns are hinted at especially at Djokovic since he is still yet to take the necessary action and his possibilities are unclear to the players.
Djokovic’s participation at the US Open has mixed reactions from people all over the world where some people are supporting the Serbian’s stance on ‘no-vaccination’ while some are bashing the former World number one’s actions calling it as ‘selfish‘ and ‘irresponsible behavior‘ for which he has to face such criticism.
