‘Absolute disgrace!’ French Open fans slammed for booing Novak Djokovic without any reason

Despite being one of the greatest players to have ever played the sport, Novak Djokovic may not be the most loved one. The Serbian superstar isn’t treated well by many fans for his sometimes ‘over-the-board’ on-court and off-court antics. The same thing repeated during his Round of 16 clash at the French Open.
Djokovic was supposed to face former semifinalist and 15th seed Diego Schwartzman in the Round of 16 at Court Suzanne Lenglen. During his entry on the court, he wasn’t treated well by some fans. As soon as the announcer called him, some fans started booing him without any reason which wasn’t a pleasant sight as he’s the World No.1 and also the defending French Open champion.
Adding to that, fans were chanting “Diego” before the players came out on the court, and Schwartzman received a huge cheer when he finally emerged from the tunnel. As expected, Djokovic too received a lot of cheers but slowly those cheers turned into loud boos.
Calling the match, French former World No. 135 Alize Lim compared the atmosphere at Lenglen to that of a football match with fans being too harsh for no good reason. “I think there’s both cheering and a little bit of booing as well. I don’t like that. Come on, [it’s] the world No 1. That’s not respectful. It sounds like a football match now already the way they are screaming,” she said.
Fans call out the undeserving hate Novak Djokovic receives
While the majority of fans were upset about the way in which Djokovic was treated, some argued that the Serb deserved this behavior for not ‘being an ideal role model’ citing his anti-vaccine stand.
