Despite being hit by Hurricane Otis, Acapulco is ready to host the ATP 500 event in 2024, and the tournament director Alvaro Falla has also extended an invitation to Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal to come and play at the tournament. Falla has said that the doors are always open for Nadal if the 22-time Grand Slam champion wants to play in Mexico for one last time.

As Nadal prepares to make a comeback on the tour after almost a year, the Spaniard is expected to play in quite a few tournaments. However, Nadal will look to not exhaust himself considering his injury-prone body. Nevertheless, there are chances that the Spaniard will play in the majority of tournaments.

With the same hope, the Abierto Mexicano Telcel director invited Nadal to play in Mexico where he has been crowned as the champion four times. While giving an update about the recovery process of the stadium, Alvaro Falla talked about the prospect of Rafael Nadal playing in Mexico from 24 February to 2 March.

There is a process of reconstruction, and also of healing. There are scars from the wounds, but we will offer all the guarantees. Acapulco is our home in good times and bad and we will celebrate the Open there. As for Rafa, if he wants to come, he will always have a space.

Will Rafael Nadal or Carlos Alcaraz play at the Mexican Open?

As tournament director Alvaro Falla has extended an invitation to Rafael Nadal, it is to be seen if the Spanish ace accepts it or if he prioritizes the other tournaments. Rafael Nadal, returning after a long break due to injury concerns, will definitely be cautious about how much workload he wants to take.

The 37-year-old does not have the same physical strength as before and hence Nadal will pick and choose the tournaments he wants to play in 2024. While the four Grand Slams will be the priority for the 22-time champion, the Paris Olympics and a few Masters events will also be Nadal’s sight as he looks to finish his career on a high.

Meanwhile, another tennis star from Spain, Carlos Alcaraz will also be a key figure in any tournament he plays. The Mexican Open tournament director knows it but he also understands that a player cannot play in all the tournaments. Hence, he is ready to wait for the right time to see Carlos Alcaraz playing at the ATP 500 event.
