Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner has been the talk of the town since his impressive display at Melbourne. Having won the first Grand Slam of his career, he has been held by many tennis experts and pundits as the next big thing in tennis. Former Italian star Adriano Panatta has stated his support for the 22-year-old as he expects him to make it big in the upcoming months.

Panatta feels that Sinner will replace the current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic at the ATP rankings very soon. Sinner is on a 12-match winning streak and having recently come back from his success at the Rotterdam Open, he is looking to go hard to outclass Carlos Alcaraz, who is currently placed second in the rankings and hasn’t been quite consistent lately.

Panatta talked about how much Sinner has achieved in the last few months. He talked to the media outlet, Kurir Sport and said,

He will also win other slams. It is very likely that he will be the first at the end of the year. After all we've said about Sinner, he's become a national sports hero. He is talked about a lot and deservedly so, because he is a guy to respect, he is modest, intelligent, and very strong.

Panatta shares his frustration over the recent comparison debates surrounding Sinner

Panatta furthermore shared his disagreement over how fans continue to compare Sinner to other Italian tennis stars. He said,

The fact that drives me crazy is that they still make comparisons between me, him, and Nikola Pietrandeli. When there is a talent like Sinner, he doesn't have to compete with us, not even think about us, but compete with Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, because he will win many titles.

Panatta feels that Sinner is not given the credit and applause he deserves by the tennis fans. Panetta added that comparisons are not doing justice to Sinner who has come back from a title win. He was in full praise of the new World No. 3 for his ability to absorb pressure and finally get the job done at Rotterdam.
