The United Cup is a mixed-gender format competition. Both the top-ranked male and female tennis players will be participating in this tournament together. Teams of both male and female players will play under their respective flags. 18 countries are participating in the inaugural edition of this tournament. This tournament will be played in three Australian cities- Perth, Melbourne, and Brisbane between 29th December, 2022 and January 8th, 2023.
Former World No.2 and six-times Fan Favorite WTA Singles Player of the Year Agnieszka Radwanska will be the non-playing co-captain with her husband Dawid Celt of the Polish tennis team at the United Cup 2023. Dawid Celt is the captain of Poland at the Billie Jean King tournament.
“It’s very exciting, for sure. You can see a lot of good teams, big teams, combined with a lot of players also as a captain. I think it’s going to be a really big one, so we can’t wait,” she said on the given opportunity.
The 2012 Wimbledon finalist has experience playing and winning a major trophy. She won the Hopman Cup in 2015 with Jerzy Janowicz. This time she would don the hat of a coach and support her team.
“Events like this, it’s always very exciting, especially when you can combine men and women in one team. You can enjoy tennis more, to be all together in one bench, cheering for each other and, you know, jumping there on the chairs. … I had a couple of events like this, and it’s really something that you want to play and want to do because it’s just different from any other tournaments,” she continued.
All male and female players will be awarded points for their performances in the tournament.
“It’s especially nice here when you have points as well for the ranking. So you’re playing for points, and you know you’re going to play a couple of matches: I think it’s also great preparation before the Australian Open. So this kind of event is perfect, especially in the beginning of the season,” she added further.

Agnieszka Radwanska talks about working with Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz

The former Polish player has only compliments for World No.1 Iga Swiatek and World No.10 Hubert Hurkacz for their performances in 2022. The inclusion of both the top seeds in the Poland team has made them ‘hot favorites’ to win this trophy.
“It’s going to be a challenge for me as well to coach such good players like Iga and Hubert. Playing is one thing, but sitting on the bench is another thing. I don’t know what is more difficult, to be honest, so I guess we’ll see there. I think it’s the best when you play and you have someone on your side, and then now they have the same feeling when they’re in one team. They know they’re strong, they’re good, they can put all the power together and win events like this,“ Agnieszka Radwanska said.
The former tennis player had been busy after retirement spending time with her husband and 2-year-old son. She continues to participate in the Legends events at Grand Slams; however, she is particularly excited about this tournament and wants Poland to win.
“I think wherever you go, you want to win, right? I think in the beginning of the year, you never know what’s going to happen. But, well, I would love to hold the trophy,” she continued.
The Polish team is in Group B with Switzerland and Kazakhstan. They will play their matches in Brisbane.
