Former World No.2 and Polish Star Agnieszka Radwanska revealed to her home media that she was also in tears, like millions of us, watching the Swiss Legend Roger Federer play his last match with Spanish Icon Rafael Nadal at the Laver cup.

The first thing that touched me was when Roger finished the game. He experienced a fantastic event. There was less pressure. A lot of great people were on the court. Federer is one of a kind. I watched his last match with Nadal and his on-court interview several times, and I have to say I shed a tear.

“He is an icon and a legend. He’s a big man on and off the pitch. A class apart at all levels. May we soon have a similar talent in the world of tennis, even if it will be extremely difficult to find.“, said Radwanska, to the Polish Media.

Radwanska gave Polish tennis some new rays of hope when she won the Newcomer of the Year award in 2006 and broke into the top-10 rankings in 2008 for the first time. She finished inside the top 10 8 times including 6 consecutive runs from 2011 to 2016.

She finally retired at the age of 29 in 2018, she is widely considered the best player to have never won a grand slam. During the interview, she was asked a lot of questions including about the remarkable season of her compatriot and current world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.

Radwanska’s tennis accomplishments are being overshadowed these days by her compatriot Swiatek starting with the latter’s first grand slam singles title win at the 2020 French Open. She currently owns several luxury hotels and leading a successful post-retirement life.

When Radwanska also reveals the emotional thoughts that went through her mind during the farewell of Roger Federer, we are yet again seeing the impacts the Swiss Maestro has had on the game, in all senses. He was once in a lifetime talent and it won’t be easy to see another Federer anytime soon.
