Iga Swiatek, the world number one is regarded as the upcoming star who has made her mark in the history of tennis where she has managed to win two Grand Slam events in the year and has been quite consistent with her performances throughout the year.

Leylah Fernandez, a young player from Canada, spoke about the impact of older players on the current generation and wishes to follow in their footsteps. She even spoke positively about the young generation era and her other female counterparts. Iga Swiatek is just 21 years of age and is a three-time Grand Slam champion, Coco Gauff is just 18 years of age but is yet to win a Grand Slam, and Emma Raducanu, the 19-year-old who had defeated Fernandez to win her maiden major singles title.

Leylah said that “We are new faces. We are just following in the footsteps of the older players who came before us. They built this bridge and now we are trying to follow. I hope we get to a quarter of what they’ve all achieved because they all seem to me to be amazing sportswomen. Honestly, I think we’re doing a good job, we’re attracting more and more tennis fans, that’s all we can ask for.

Iga Swiatek decided to donate her prize money from the Ostrava Open for mental health initiatives in her country by non-profitable organizations. She has been vocal about the various challenges she faced after becoming number one and had to face a lot of expectations from people.

She stated that “The fact that Ash decided to end her career, I was number two for less than a week, and then in one day, I became number one. It was hard not to have expectations after winning six tournaments for six months. I formulated them for myself, but also the outside world imposed them on me. There were voices of anxiety about what was happening to me after losing one game.

She created history when she became the first player from Poland to win a Grand Slam at the French Open in 2020. She has climbed to the top spot and has maintained her dominance with her 37-match winning streak that ended with her exit in Wimbledon and her 18-match winning streak at the clay season ended with her quarter-final loss at Poland Open.
