Patrick Mouratoglou has slowly become one of the most sought coaches in over the past decade. Since teaming up with Serena Williams in 2012, he led the American to multiple Grand Slam titles even in her 30s and the coach-player team had a long association of 10 years that recently came to an end.

Serena’s inactivity on the Tour since 2021 Wimbledon and no confirmed return date saw Patrick and Serena split mutually and the Frenchman has now teamed up with Simona Halep as a full-time coach. He also oversees the coaching of young guns Stefanos Tsitsipas and Coco Gauff but rarely travels with them on the Tour.

Patrick apart from his academy is also very busy on the social media platforms where through video tutorials he gives special tips to his followers on the platform and also discusses various things in and around tennis giving his valued opinion with technical analysis that is much sought by tennis enthusiasts. He recently named his favourites for the 2022 French Open with the Grand Slam just a few days away and there were some obvious choices.

“There will be huge stakes for Djokovic at Roland Garros this year. He dominated across several Grand Slam tournaments last year and this will be his first major in 2022. If he wins, he will tie Rafa in the GOAT race with 21 and be in a great position to take the lead,” said Patrick speaking about World No. 1 and defending champion at this year’s French Open, Novak Djokovic‘s chances.

He then discussed the chances of the 21-time major winner and 13-time French Open winner Rafael Nadal. “He’s known as the ‘King of Clay’ and winning this year’s Roland Garros would mean taking a two title lead on Roger and Novak in the GOAT race. But he didn’t have a great claycourt in preparation for the French Open and didn’t look in too good physical shape against Shapovalov in Rome,” said Patrick.

With the rise of Carlos Alcaraz being an exciting prospect for tennis fans, there is quite a buzz about whether the teen can surprise everyone in Paris this year to which Patrick also lent his two cents. “Carlitos is probably the most solid player at the moment. He won Barcelona, he won Madrid, as well as Miami a few weeks earlier. In Madrid, he became the first player to defeat Nadal and Djokovic in the same claycourt event,” said Mouratoglou.

Mouratoglou came very close to winning his 3rd French Open title as a coach when Stefanos Tsitsipas reached the finals last year. But Djokovic made a spectacular comeback from 2-sets down to clinch the title and keep the Greek youngster waiting for his maiden major. “Finalist last year in Roland Garros, Tsitsipas also had a good claycourt preparation for the Roland Garros. He defended his title in Monte-Carlo and racked up big wins over the last month,” said Mouratoglou about one of his many pupils.
