Carlos Alcaraz has had a tough time in the Asian tournaments so far, failing to reach the finals of both, the China Open and the Shanghai Masters. This comes as a shock after his incredible performance this year in the Grand Slams, especially winning the Wimbledon this year after defeating the Serbian legend, Novak Djokovic.

Alex Corretja however mentions that Carlos Alcaraz’s poor performance in the 2 Asian Opens is not alarming nor concerning and compares his result with that of the Big 3. He added, “Alcaraz’s Asian tour is not worrying. I don’t give it any importance. Every tournament, every week, every game is a learning experience for Alcaraz, his season is being spectacular. Better almost impossible.”

Former Spanish tennis player and World No. 2, Alex Corretja backed Carlos Alcaraz and compared his loss to that of the Big 3. He said that this is part of a learning journey for the Spaniard after having such a good season on tour this year. He stated, ” Carlos there will come a time when he will have to select tournaments like [Novak] Djokovic. We are used to times when [Rafael] Nadal, Djokovic and [Roger] Federer reached the Masters 1000 [events] and won them as if nothing had happened.”

He further added, “It is more normal for him to make a semi-final against Sinner and then be surprised by Dimitrov.” Carlos Alcaraz lost to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of the China Open and later suffered a shocking defeat against American Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 match at the Shanghai Masters.
