Alex de Minaur defeated Alexander Bublik in the third round of the 2024 Indian Wells with much domination. Even after the highly convincing 7-5, 6-0 victory, however, the Australian highly praised Bublik and said that it is never easy to play against him because the Kazakhstani player apparently baits others to make mistakes.
Minaur said that he is happy to have played some good tennis. The match, however, was not necessarily easy. In fact, it was quite the opposite and the World No. 10 went on to explain why it is often difficult to play against the Kazakh.
Alex de Minaur termed Bublik to be ‘tricky’ and praised him by saying that he has had a great year so far.
I think I did what needed to be done. Never easy playing Bublik. I’m happy to still be in the tournament and playing some good tennis… He’s such a tough guy to play. At times he takes the racquet out of your hand. He’ll bait you into making mistakes. He’s very tricky. He’s had a great year and played a lot of matches. Well, Bublik has indeed had a great season so far, apart from his first-round loss against India’s Sumit Nagal in the 2024 Australian Open. He reached the semifinals of the Adelaide International, the round of 16 of the ATP Rotterdam, the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open, and the finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. Apart from that, he even won the Open Sud de France.
Alex de Minaur’s form has been on the rise in 2024 so far
Alex de Minaur had an equally dominating victory in the second round as well, where he defeated Japan’s Taro Daniel 6-1, 6-2. This shows how great a form the Australian is in currently.
It is currently unsure who he will face in the fourth round, but the way he is playing right now, Minaur can defeat anyone.
He has had a sensational run in 2024 so far. He was the one to end Novak Djokovic’s winning run in the United Cup, to everybody’s surprise. Besides that, he also reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, the final of ATP Rotterdam (where he lost to Jannik Sinner), the round of 16 of the Los Cabos Open, and won the Mexican Open. He is also expected to have a positive result in the Indian Wells.
